The first two cars manufactured in Greece were given registration numbers by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos and the Regional Governor of Attica, Mr. Giorgos Patoulis, in a special event held today, Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Directorate of Transport of the Attica Region.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Governor of the B. Sector Mrs L. Kefalogianni, the Deputy Governor of the K. Sector Mr. G. Dimopoulos, the Deputy Governor of Transport Mr. V. Giannakopoulos, the Head of the Department of Transport of the Region Mr. H. Dolgiras and representatives of the manufacturing company “KERABOSS CARS MANUFACTURING” .
Both the deputy Minister of Transport and the Regional Mayor congratulated the manufacturers for the innovative initiative, pointing out that it is encouraging that the first car manufactured by Greek hands is now a reality.
The first step for the development of the project was made with the goverment decision B3134/2014 which created for the first time the regulatory framework where the procedures and technical requirements for the approval of the circulation of Individual Vehicles of Special Construction were determined.
In 2016, the first application was submitted by “KERABOS CARS MANUFACTURING” for issuing an individual M1 category passenger vehicle approval and finally, in 2021, the duties and fees were determined by the Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Finance.

The Region of Attica issued the number plates in 2022. The Deputy Minister of Transport Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos said:
In 2014 we created the legislation, with the aim of overcoming obstacles for Greek car manufacturers who had a vision to create, but could not support mass production investment.
Today we have the pleasure of presenting the first approved and certified Greek car, in the manufacturing of which, in fact, an accomplished representative of female entrepreneurship has played a leading role.
We have the human resources and the know-how to keep worthy engineers and entrepreneurs in Greece, but also to attract young people from abroad, upgrading the institutional framework and the quality of our services, as is the case with the digital transformation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport that we are promoting together with Kostas Karamanlis.
Now, a set of procedures such as replacements and renewals of driver’s licenses are handled electronically by the Departments of Transport of the Regions, which implement the legislation of the Ministry. This is an excellent example of cooperation between the Central Administration and the Regions that improves the daily life of citizens, reduces administrative burdens, but as we saw today, it also opens new avenues for entrepreneurship. Our priority remains Road Safety and in this context comes the renewed Road Traffic Code which will be more substantial and adapted to today’s conditions”.
The Regional Governor of Attica, Mr. Giorgos Patoulis, said:
Today, with the Deputy Minister of Transport and friend Michalis Papadopoulos, we met at the Transport Directorate of the Attica Region to symbolically put the number plates on the first Greek vehicle – and indeed a handmade one – to hit the roads after several decades. I want to express my joy for today’s symbolic move, which is the result of the very good cooperation we have with the Ministry. Transportation.
The vehicles for which the Attica Region issued the license plates today are the result of a multi-year effort, which combines innovation, the circular economy and fledgling female entrepreneurship – elements that are key axes of our development policy.
